Boxing news: Carl Froch names TWO potential opponents for rumoured comeback
CARL FROCH has played down talk that he could make a stunning retirement u-turn and return to boxing, but he name-dropped a few potential opponents if he were to come back.
Carl Froch reveals he would ‘definitely’ rematch George Groves
The former IBF super-middleweight world champion retired in 2014 after knocking out George Groves at Wembley Stadium in the pair’s highly-anticipated rematch.
Since then, he has gone on to star in various television shows, and now works as a pundit for Sky Sports.
But despite having retired, he has stayed in shape and has been heavily linked with a comeback.
Last month, he appeared alongside long-term rival Groves whilst working as a pundit for Sky, and the pair settled their differences.
However, in interviews afterwards, the 41-year-old claimed that he would come out of retirement for a trilogy fight with ‘The Saint’.
Speaking to Boxing Social, he also talked up the prospect of a third fight against Danish fighter Mikkel Kessler.
Kessler, dubbed ‘The Viking Warrior’, took Froch’s unbeaten record in 2010, but was beaten by the Nottingham man in a 2013 rematch.
And ‘The Cobra’ revealed that he spoke to Kessler about the Dane making a possible comeback, and believes it is possible.
“I’m quite realistic, I’m 41-years-old,” he said.
“I had a fantastic career and made a lot of money. I don’t like talking about money but it’s a point to make because a lot of people come back from retirement for money.
“If I was to come out of retirement at any stage, it wouldn’t be for financial gain, it would be to fulfil something.
“I’m realistic, I couldn’t come back at light-heavyweight and beat a [Artur] Bierbitev or a Callum Smith if he came up to light-heavyweight, or any of the light-heavyweights.
“I’ve got to pick the dance partner. George Groves could get down to light-heavyweight, he might not.
“Mikkael Kessler, I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago, he might be coming out of retirement.
“If I pick the right dance partner and I still feel it, I’m in the gym right now for a new TV show which will be revealed soon, depending on how training goes and how I feel, maybe I do or maybe I don’t?”
Froch did, however, play down any real chances of a third fight with Groves.

“There’s nothing to prove with Groves, it’s not like it’s 1-1,” he insisted.
“It’s 2-0, the last fight was conclusive. I like George now, I had a good chat with him the other week.
“It’s something that people might want to see, but it’s not something that motivates me massively if I’m honest.”
