Boxing news: Anthony Joshua likely next opponent Jarrell Miller is ‘garbage’ - Whyte
ANTHONY JOSHUA is expected to announce a fight against unbeaten American Jarrell Miller in the coming days, but the potential opponent’s calibre makes the fight not worth watching.
Jarrell Miller vows to give Anthony Joshua a 'Brooklyn beatdown'
That is the opinion of heavyweight rival Dillian Whyte, who has described Miller as “garbage”.
Whyte revealed late last week that negotiations to fight Joshua on April 13 were dead despite Eddie Hearn trying to strike a deal between his fighters.
That setback, following failed overtures to lure Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury into a blockbuster clash with AJ, has left Hearn bereft of top-level options for the unified world champion.
It is now expected Joshua will make his US debut in early June, fighting Miller at Madison Square Garden.
Miller is garbage
Miller is not a household name but is also under Hearn’s management and has reasonable expectations over contract terms.
The match-up would nevertheless be a disappointment for fans who have longed for an iconic box-office clash for British boxing’s golden boy.
And one person not impressed by the fight is Whyte, who was asked about it on Sky Sports.
“Miller is garbage,” The Body Snatcher asserted.
“I can’t believe they’d choose to fight Miller over fighting me.
“But I get it, it’s a business move. Joshua needs to fight on DAZN in America and Eddie’s under pressure to deliver.”
“Miller is the perfect opponent for America.
“He looks the part, he’s undefeated, he can’t punch, he’s got a good work rate, you know he will talk the talk. He’s a perfect opponent for them.”
Jarrell Miller got under Anthony Joshua's skin claims expert
Whyte is expected to fight either Alexander Povetkin or Dominic Breazeale - both men Joshua has already beaten - in spring, and made clear he would not waste his time watching Joshua vs Miller after his next fight is over.
“I wouldn’t waste my time going to the fight, I know what’s going to happen already,” Whyte said.
“Six, seven rounds minimum and then [Miller] is going to get knocked out.”
