Anthony Joshua: Joe Rogan explains with Wilder vs Fury 2 puts AJ in 'terrible position
ANTHONY JOSHUA is in a bad spot following Deontay Wilder’s barnburner with Tyson Fury, UFC commentator Joe Rogan believes.
Joshua would beat Fury AND Wilder claims Hearn
Wilder fought Fury to a controversial draw earlier this month, a result which saw him retain the WBC heavyweight title.
Since their epic bout, Fury and Wilder have been the talk of the heavyweight division, with many fans revealing they hold the pair in higher regard than Joshua.
Joshua is scheduled to return to the ring on April 13 but doesn’t have an opponent at this moment in time.
It’s understood that the winner of this month’s heavyweight bout between Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora is in contention to face the Olympian at Wembley, though his promoter Eddie Hearn has claimed there are several ‘wildcards’ on the table.
The prospect of Joshua fighting the winner of Whyte-Chisora II hasn’t sat well with his detractors, many of whom are of the believe that the 29-year-old is being protected from Wilder and Fury - who are on course to rematch one another.
There are many in the combat sports world who believe Wilder and Fury have now eclipsed Joshua following their classic bout, a belief Rogan holds.
“It’s going to be incredible. And it puts Anthony Joshua in a terrible situation,” Rogan said of Wilder’s proposed rematch with Fury during the latest episode of The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast, which ‘The Bronze Bomber’ was a guest on. “Terrible. He looks awful. Terrible.
“He’s going to fight some guy and no one gives a f**k. It’s like whatever titles you’ve got, they’re bulls**t.
It puts Anthony Joshua in a terrible situation
“Everybody knows this is where the real title is. It’s a wrap now.”
Wilder and Joshua’s respective teams were in talks over a multi-million-pound unification fight earlier this year, though those negotiations failed to bear any fruit.
And according to the American, Joshua’s representatives are now desperately trying to scupper a rematch with Fury.
"They're definitely begging now. His management have been trying to reach out to mine all of a sudden," the Alabama native said.
"He could have had this opportunity, he had many opportunities; he could have fought Luis Ortiz, he could have fought me, he had a chance to fight [Tyson] Fury.
"But people want to know who's the best, especially after seeing this Fury fight, and I've been trying to show people who is the best. I’m always going to say I'm the best until I'm defeated."
Although the WBC have already approved a rematch between Wilder and Fury, Hearn has claimed Joshua is still targeting a unification bout.
When asked if the sanctioning of Wilder vs Fury II has curtailed plans for a unification bout, Hearn told Sky Sports: "No, I think the wording was everything in that one, sanctioned not ordered.
"I think what they're saying is they would approve the rematch.
"Dominic Breazeale is the mandatory, who is supposed to fight the winner, so what they're saying is that they would allow the rematch.
"As far as I see, they haven't ordered it. We'll see. I don't think it really changes much. If Wilder wants to fight Fury, he'll fight Fury.
"If he wants to be undisputed, he'll fight Joshua. It [unification] can trump anything. I don't know how much that means to Wilder. It means everything to us, means everything to Joshua, but the rematch is a big fight."
