Canelo vs GGG 2: Alvarez reveals what he really thinks of Golovkin’s injection claim
CANELO ALVAREZ has laughed off Gennady Golovkin’s claim of seeing injection marks all over his body when looking at old photos of him.
Golovkin made the stunning accusation not long after it emerged that Alvarez had tested positive for the banned performance-enhancing drug clenbuterol, a doping infringement which landed him a retroactive six-month suspension.
The WBA Super, WBC and IBO middleweight champion doubled down on his claim on Tuesday after the pair’s grand arrivals at the MGM Grand Garden Arena ahead of their rematch this weekend.
“You can’t deny there was some injection marks,” Golovkin told the assembled media. “On his arms there was some injection marks.
“I don’t know what it was but the injection marks were evidently there; everywhere, his biceps, his stomach, and pretty much everywhere.
“All over his body, you can see the injection marks. People showed me photographs and in the paragraphs were injection marks.”
Golovkin's bold accusation was put to Canelo shortly after the Kazakh doubled down on his stance.
And the Mexican dismissed his opponent’s suggestion that he’s a cheat as an excuse for him losing this weekend.
He said: “I don’t know which one to laugh about or get angry about at this point but their statements are all excuses for the loss they will take this Saturday.”
Those are the kicks and screams of someone who is drowning
The Guadalajara native later added: “Those are the kicks and screams of someone who is drowning.
“Those are the excuses that they are making because of what is coming on Saturday — which is a loss for them.
“I’ve been monitored for most of my career, I’ve been monitored by WADA since 2011 and that’s why they have authorities.”
Canelo’s rematch with Golovkin takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The pair’s first meeting ended in a controversial split draw, though many boxing experts and fans scored the bout in Golovkin’s favour.
Canelo doesn’t plan on leaving the fight in the judges’ hands this time around and intends to close the book on his rivalry with ‘GGG’ in emphatic fashion.
“From the beginning, I will work him to look for that KO,” Alvarez said on a media conference call.
“That’s what I’ll be doing from the very first round.
“And that’s why I’m training and I’m mentally prepared to do that.
“Obviously, you know, that’s the way I want this fight to end by knockout, and for them to raise my hand after that knockout victory.”
