Canelo vs GGG 2 Judges: Who will judge fight? Trainer reaction to appointment
GENNADY GOLOVKIN takes on Canelo Alvarez on Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The pair meet in a rematch of their 2017 fight-of-the-year candidate, which ended in a controversial draw.
Both fighters were adamant that they had won the fight, and have aimed verbal jabs at each other since the rematch was agreed.
The fight seemed to be off for many months, after Canelo failed a drugs test and blamed contaminated meat.
The Mexican served his suspension and agreed the rematch for September 15.
Now, the officials for Saturday’s fight have been announced, and Golovkin's coach, Abel Sanchez, has said he is pleased with the decision.
The referee for the fight will be Benji Esteves.
Esteves has never worked on a fight with either Golovkin or Alvarez involved, which gives him the advantage of neutrality.
He has, however, worked on fights such as Naseem Hamed vs Kevin Kelly, Miguel Cotto vs Shane Mosley and Bernard Hopkins vs Kelly Pavlik.
He is a member of the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame.
Outside of the ring, the three ringside judges will be Dave Moretti, Steve Weisfeld, and Glenn Feldman.
All three will be paid $2,500, with Esteves taking home $5,000.

Moratti judged the first bout, and scored the bout 115-113 for Gennady Golovkin.
He has worked on big fights including Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao.
The Las Vegas resident also scored fights between Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Erislandy Lara and Miguel Cotto.
Glenn Feldman
Glenn Feldman scored the Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight alongside Morati, scoring the megafight 116-112 in favour of Mayweather.
He has also judged three of Gennady Golovkin’s past fights, though he wasn’t needed as all three were won by knockout.
Feldman has judged two of Canelo Alvarez’ fights in the past.
Steve Weisfeld
Steve Weisfeld has previously worked as the unofficial judge for HBO’s fight broadcasts.
He scored Golovkin’s closest fight to date, against Danny Jacobs, in which he gave a score of 115-112 for Golovkin.
This will be the first time he has worked on a Canelo Alvarez fight.
Sanchez explained that he just wanted the judges to be impartial, so as to avoid any controversy in the event of a points decision on Saturday.
“I just wanted neutral, I wanted guys that weren't influenced by the Nevada commission. I made a stink about it before the first fight about Adelaide Byrd, nobody listened,” he said.
"So now we have three very respected judges in the U.S., Steve Weisfeld is probably the dean of judges as far as impartiality and Benji Esteves being the referee, at least it's not a guy that's handled either one of the fighters in the past so he's going to be a guy that doesn't have an ax to grind or has an agenda in the fight.”
