ITV Good Morning Britain: Piers Morgan issues apology after offensive remarks
GOOD MORNING BRITAIN viewers were treated to a rare sight this morning as Piers Morgan was forced to take some time out of his regularly scheduled broadcast to make an apology.
GMB: Piers Morgan lists all the people he's offended in ONE show
Piers Morgan does not mince his words on live TV, but today he thought twice about what he had said.
Susanna Reid was as shocked as Good Morning Britain viewers this morning after Piers went back on his words.
After making some comments on the world cup and the Wirral, Piers returned from an advert break to clear his conscience.
Whipping his phone out Piers rattled through a list of people he had offended so far in the show, and began apologising.
Phone in one hand and head in the other he began his apology: “People in the Wirral have gone absolutely nuts.”
Richard Arnold commented: “Please tell me they’re outside with placards.”
Piers continued: “Wirral is not Liverpool - I know that.
“You’re Merseyside, and you look at Liverpool, there is three bridges that connect you.
“I don’t know why I said that - and I apologise.
“Before you arrive with pitchforks…”
I don’t know why I said that - and I apologise
Susanna laughed: “So that’s the Scots, and people on the Wirral.
“And anybody working on health and safety in building sites, and anybody working in traffic management.”
Susanna then clutched her ear and added: “Oh, and the gallery just said everyone in the gallery!”
Piers rubbed his brow and sighed: “Yeah, it’s a long list.”
But viewers on Twitter were quick to correct his correction, with one writing: “Loving that you have said on the wirral, but piers it’s a RIVER that divides us from Liverpool.”
Another wrote: “@piersmorgan we have 2 tunnels connecting Wirral to Liverpool, one at Wallasey the other at Birkenhead, not 3 bridges as you stated on @GMB #GMB.”
Earlier this week Piers was involved in a heated debate with Coronation Street star Nicola Thorp over sexism and wearing revealing dresses on the red carpet.
Nicola explained: “I don’t wear it so people notice me. I’m on a red carpet because I was up for Best Newcomer at the British Soap Awards.”
But Piers hit back: “I get called ‘fat and useless’ all the time, so what’s the difference?”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
