Soap Awards 2018: Viewers in turmoil as they spot THIS unexpected Coronation Street star
THE BRITISH SOAP AWARDS 2018 had plenty of famous faces in the audience as the UK’s soap stars turned up in droves to see who would receive the coveted gongs. However, viewers were aghast when they spotted one star in the crowd.
Soap Awards: Helen Worth sits next to Brian Capron
It all unfolded as the awards show hosted by Phillip Schofield aired on ITV.
However, when the camera cut to Gail Platt actress Helen Worth smiling in the audience, one of Gail’s exes was sitting next to her.
It was in fact none other than Richard Hillman actor Brian Capron.
Those watching were stunned, as of course die hard Coronation Street fans will remember Richard tried to kill Gail and her family, and in the process ended up killing himself.
The actor hasn’t been seen on the soap since then when his last scenes aired in 2003.
Why is Richard Hillman there? Somebody tell Gail
Viewers took to Twitter, to express their amazement at what they had just seen.
“Why is Richard Hillman sat next to Gail? #soapawards,” one questioned.
Another exclaimed: “Why is Richard Hillman there? Somebody tell Gail!! #SoapAwards.”
Some joked that Richard in the same room as Pat Phelan (played by Connor McIntyre) could be disastrous.
“Richard Hilman & Pat Phelan are in the same building! I’d be running the other way #SoapAwards #corrie,” a viewer wrote.
A second added: “B****y hell, Phelan and Richard Hillman in the audience, expect deaths #SoapAwards.”
Others thought it could mean that Richard is headed back to the Street to terrorise Gail.
“Does this mean Richard Hillman is coming back since he’s sitting next to Gail Platt? #SoapAwards,” a fan questioned.
Another asked: “#SoapAwards is Richard hillman coming back then?? Why else has he got a seat??”
"Right why is Richard Hillman sat next to Gail ? Is he coming back ??#SoapAwards," a third said.
However, the reason Brian was in the audience was because his attempt to kill the Platt family was up for the Greatest Moment Award.
The brand new prize recognises some of the most iconic soap moments of all time.
Their competition in the category includes: Vivien’s rape in Doctors, EastEnders “You Ain’t My Mother” moment, the Hotten By-Pass crash in Emmerdale and Jade saying goodbye to Alfie in Hollyoaks.
Coronation Street was the first winner of the night after Bethany Platt actress Lucy Fallon won the Best Female Dramatic Performance accolade.
The British Soap Awards 2018 is available to watch on the ITV Hub.
