BENIDORM fans are sure to be distraught over claims that ITV bosses have axed the popular comedy and replacing the fan-favourite with a new Scarborough based sitcom.
Preview of the tenth series of Benidorm
Season 10 of the much loved sitcom Benidorm only began on Wednesday, but claims that it has been axed have put a halt on fans excitement for the latest series.
It's now been reported that the current series will be the final series, amid falling ratings.
What's more, Benidorm creator Derren Litten is said to have already signed up to work on a new sitcom for the BBC.
The new seaside comedy will apparently be set in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, and will be set in a karaoke bar in a holiday resort.
Benidorm: Reports have emerged that the comedy has been cancelled
“Benidorm has been a huge success for ITV for a decade, but bosses feel it’s run its course," a TV insider explained.
“The ratings have started to drop off and a number of the fan favourites have left, so it just feels as though the time is right to let it go out while it’s still on a high.
They added to The Sun: “It has been ITV’s longest running comedy, which is a real achievement.”
This season's premiere saw 4.3 million fans tuning in, however it was a drastic drop on last series, coming up at 400,000 fewer viewers.

He wrote: “Apparently The Sun are running a story tomorrow on how #Benidorm has been cancelled.
"Don’t make me f*****g laugh (I enjoyed that story after series 6. And 7 and 8 and 9…).”
