Vikings: Gustaf Skarsgard discusses his character Floki
Speaking about what fans can expect from Viking warrior when the series returns to Amazon Prime and the History channel, Vikings writer Michael hinted that things aren’t looking good.
“The whole Icelandic adventure becomes rather grim and ultimately extremely tragic in ways that even now you can’t quite anticipate,” he told press including Express.co.uk.
“Floki has put his life on the line for this settlement and to live in the land of the gods.
“He’s got a distinctly nasty surprise waiting for him around the corner, which again I can’t really reveal.”

Michael went on to reveal that he “made up” the character of Floki (played by Gustaf Skarsgård) but later learned that he had actually existed.
“He’s shipbuilder but I also wanted him to be the joker,” he explained.
“When I decided to take someone to Iceland with the Vikings - that’s historically true, at the beginning I was looking at who discovered Iceland - it was a viking called Floki.”
Speaking about how the adventure unfolds for Floki, Michael detailed: “He’s fed up of fighting and he’s lost everything.

“He’s lost his wife, he’s lost Ragnar. He’s finished. The only thing he can think of is submitting himself to the will of the gods to get in a boat and submit himself to the elements.
“They take him to Iceland and his reading of that is that they must have brought me here for a reason, to establish a godly land.
“We do know that Floki took the Vikings there and there was a settlement established. We also know it had early teething troubles and so on.
“All that became part of the narrative. Of course, I make dramatic choices about how it plays out.”
Meanwhile, ahead of season five’s return it has been heavily hinted that Lagertha (Kathryn Winnick) will die.

In the 30-second teaser for the second half of the series, Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen) can be heard announcing that she is to be sacrificed.
Her death appeared to have been confirmed in episode 16 of season four, when The Seer (John Kavanagh) told her that Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) had made it to Valhalla before revealing her fate.
“Will I be killed by a son of Ragnar?” Lagertha asked, to which The Seer replied: “Yes.”
Vikings season 5 will return to Amazon Prime Video in 2018 while Vikings season 4 airs on History at 9pm on Tuesdays.
The Real Vikings starts Tuesday 20th February at 10pm exclusively on HISTORY.
