Max (played by Jake Wood) will be leaving EastEnders for a short time following a twist in Abi Branning’s (Lorna Fitzgerald) funeral storyline.
The youngest Branning tragically died last month following a Christmas Day fall from the roof of the Queen Vic pub.
Max, who was on the roof at the time, has struggled in recent weeks with his guilt, and finally comes to terms with his daughter’s death just in time for the funeral.
However, when he tries to attend the service, he finds a barrage of obstacles from his own family.

Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) and Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) plan to keep Abi’s funeral private and go to desperate lengths to keep Max away.
He finds himself suspicious when his other daughter fails to tell each everyone the same story.
After sorting through her post, Max realises all of the mistakes he made as a father and rushes to the funeral parlous to see her body.
Lauren tells her dad his worst fears that Abi has already been buried without him.

Clearly heartbroken, Max announces that he’s leaving for a couple of days to sort his head out.
However, with Lauren finally revealing that the funeral hasn’t taken place, will Max change his plans?
Elsewhere on the BBC soap, Mel Owen (Tamzin Outhwaite) finally revealed what her connection is to Ciara Maguire (Denise McCormack).
She divulged to Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean) that Ciara is her sister-in-law but she is desperately trying to get out of the family.

Mel confided: “Now I’m trying to get out, only they’re not the kind of family that let you go easily.
“Getting that money back to Ciara is my ticket out, and I’ll do whatever it takes.”
With Ciara guarding her son Hunter Owen (Charlie Winter), will she get him back unharmed?
