EastEnders spoilers: Mel Owen’s return REVEALED - Is she going to take down Ben Mitchell?
MEL OWEN'S return to EastEnders has been revealed, with hints that her interest lies with the New Years Day heist.
Sharon Marshall discusses Mel Owen's return to EastEnders
In a clip shown on today’s This Morning, the classic EastEnders heroine (played by Tamzin Outhwaite) was shown in Kathy's Cafe talking to former husband Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt).
Ian seems to be attempting to rekindle their once fiery relationship by asking Mel if she wants to get a drink, or go for a bite to eat while she’s back in Walford.
Amidst the conversation Mel’s eyes dart to the seemingly diamond necklace that Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) is wearing, and begins to inquire about it: “That’s a lovely necklace, by the way.”
Kathy immediately downplays the subject: “Thank you, just a bit of costume jewellery. But it is pretty, yeah.”
Is Mel Owen back to take out Ben Mitchell?
Mel looks back to Ian and begins to dig deeper: “Have you been spoiling your mum again?”
Her former mother-in-law interjects, explaining that Ben Mitchell (Harry Reid) gave it to her.
Evidently intrigued, Mel continues to press the subject: “Special occasion, was it? A big birthday?”
“No,” she replies. “Just a lovely boy, that’s all.”
Kathy dismisses Mel's questions
Mel Owen returns after sixteen years
The drama follows the recent reveal that Ben had double-crossed Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), and stole the money and jewellery from the New Years Day heist.
And with Harry Reid exiting Eastenders this year, is Mel going to somehow have a hand in Ben’s exit?
Tamzin is reprising her role after leaving Eastenders 16 years ago, where long-time viewers saw her character married to Ian, and Steve Owen (Martin Kemp).
Eastenders continues tonight BBC One at 7.30pm.
