‘She would be really good!’ Olivia Colman frontrunner to be first female Doctor Who
ACTRESS Olivia Colman is a frontrunner to be the first female Doctor Who after backing from an influential former show producer.
Producer Phil Collinson has said he wants Olivia Colman to be the next Doctor Who
Phil Collinson produced almost 50 episodes of the BBC sci-fi hit when David Tennant was the Time Lord between 2005 and 2008.
Now one of Britain’s leading independent producers, Collinson was asked who should take over from Peter Capaldi, who is expected to finish with this year’s Christmas special.
Collinson said: “I want Olivia Colman. It’s the right time and she would be really good.”
Colman, star of ITV detective hit Broadchurch alongside Tennant and The Night Manager, has been touted before as the first female Doctor Who.
Tennant said recently she would make a “magnificient choice”. Former Doctor Who boss Russell T Davies, who revived the show after a 16-year hiatus, said last week: “I know who it is.”

Yet he would not be drawn on a name. Most speculation has centred on former Death In Paradise detective, Kris Marshall, the current favourite.
A BBC spokesman said: “We’re not commenting on any of the speculation.”

When asked about the next “regeneration” in which the new time traveller is revealed to viewers, departing Doctor Who boss Steven Moffat ramped up the chatter even more saying: “We’re playing it slightly different this time.”
Moffat is giving way to Broadchurch writer Chris Chibnall. The two-part finale to this series of Doctor Who begins next Saturday.

It will see Missy (Michelle Gomez) and the Master (John Simm), two incarnations of the Doctor’s arch enemy, together for the first time.
It will also feature the return of the Cybermen, in an episode the BBC say “will chance Doctor Who for ever”.
Finale begins with World Enough and Time on BBC One on Saturday June 24 and concludes with The Doctor Falls the following Saturday
