Terry, a father-of-two from Rotherham, suffered a brain aneurysm and a severe stroke last year and was left unable to look after himself.
Although he was very grateful to the staff at the home for looking after him, he longed to be living with his family again.
Those watching at home were outraged that a man in his 30s was living with elderly patients far away from his two young daughters.
One furious viewer tweeted: “Outraged that this man has to live in a dementia home, he's been failed by society #diysos.”

“@DIYSOS @MrNickKnowles Shocking & heartbreaking that a 36yo stroke victim has to live in a care home with elderly dementia patients #DIYSOS,” another added.
A third said: “That poor man. Only 36 and in an old people's dementia care home #nightmare #diysos.”
Luckily for Terry, he had the support of his sister, Tracy and brother-in-law, Jamie.

Terry thanked the builders for "giving me my life back"
The DIY SOS team stepped in and built an accessible outhouse in the back of the garden for him to live in.
The team also adapted the main house and added an office space, which meant that Terry could have his dignity and independence back, while being just a few metres away from Tracy.
The programme ended with Terry thanking presenter Nick Knowles and the team for “giving me my life back”.
DIY SOS continues next Tuesday at 9pm on BBC One.
