'Oh my God' Downton Abbey's gruesome bloodbath hailed as most dramatic scene EVER
DOWNTON ABBEY'S final season has been a fairly brisk walk in the park - until now.
Viewers left petrified as Lord Grantham vomited blood in Downton Abbey
Tonight, the quaint family drama turned into a brutal bloodbath, worthy of a scene from Game of Thrones, as Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) projectile vomited his own blood, repeatedly.
Viewers were left stunned as their cosy Sunday night in turned into a terrifying horror in one of the most shocking scenes in the drama's long-running history.
The audience awaited with tepid anticipation as ITV warned of "disturbing scenes ahead".
"This is the most stressed I've ever been watching #DowntonAbbey .... when are these 'disturbing scenes' happening???" cried one petrified viewer.
The Lord's guests were in for for a ghastly surprise
And disturbing scenes they were. The family patriarch terrified viewers as he exploded with blood to leave fans on tenterhooks.
"Don't expect to see that on a late night horror movie let alone #DowntonAbbey," wrote one particularly stunned audience member, while the list of gaps on social media raged on.
Thankfully, Robert will fight to live another day as despair swiftly turned into relief by the sight of the wounded Lord Lieutenant resting comfortably in bed.

Although, some were perturbed by his speedy recovery.
One viewer barked: "Why go with the whole 'Robert explodes with blood' thing, and then make him instantly better? Classic #DowntonAbbey".
The residents of Downton Abbey have lived through a World War, and seen Sybil (Jessica Brown-Findlay) die in child birth and Matthew Crawley perish in fatal car crash - yet, nothing appeared to be more gruesome than Lord Grantham's stomach ulcer.

Will Lord Grantham make it to Christmas?
For now, the Count of Grantham appears to be alive and well, although fans seem doubtful he'll survive the coming weeks.
