UNFLAPPABLE butler Mr Carson is not usually known for outpourings of emotion in the Downton Abbey household.

But even he admitted to breaking down after the final scene of the hit period drama was filmed.
On Sunday, millions will tune in to see how the first episode of the final series concludes.
And while the ending is a closely guarded secret, actor Jim Carter, 67, who plays the formidable Mr Carson, said the finale reduced the cast and crew to tears.

“The director said ‘Cut! That’s a wrap for the servants of Downton Abbey’. I thanked the crew, then I choked up. I filled up with tears, completely out of the blue.”

Mr Carson was not the only one reaching for his hankie when the curtain fell on filming.
Housekeeper Mrs Hughes, played by Phyllis Logan, 59, was also a quivering wreck.
In the latest issue of Radio Times, on sale today, he said: “Phyllis was a soggy mess. She was hopeless, as I knew she would be. But the guys on the crew were weeping.”
