Outlander season eight episode two previewed

Outlander season 8 continues this week with another dramatic instalment that will leave fans on the edge of their seats, following audiences being left divided by the Faith Fraser revelation and the return of a key character.

Starz has released a brief teaser for Outlander season eight, episode two, entitled Prophecies, reports the Daily Record.

The episode summary for Prophecies states: "When a violent tragedy shakes the Ridge, the Frasers must lean [on] their new tenants to make the community whole again."

In the short trailer, Claire (played by Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) discussed Frank Randall's (Tobias Menzies) book and the claim that the Highlander was going to die.

Jamie also said that Frank never mentioned the men he would go into battle with, leaving him with more questions about the veracity of the historian's claims.

There's additional pressure on Jamie and Claire when a stranger arrives at the Ridge and warns them that retired British soldier Captain Charles Cunningham (Kieran Bew) is a "danger".

Jamie subsequently discusses the matter with his son-in-law Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) as they grapple to decide who to trust.

Whilst Jamie's impending death weighs heavily on the couple, tragedy strikes at Fraser's Ridge this week.

A bear charges at Brianna Mackenzie (Sophie Skelton) in the woods as she fires directly at the enraged creature. Adding to the tension, it appears that Young Ian Murray's (John Bell) wife Rachel (Izzy Meikle-Small) goes into labour and Claire rushes to assist her.

The preview reaches a heartbreaking climax as Claire declares: "There's nothing I can do."

Prophecies will be directed by actress and executive producer Balfe, marking her second stint behind the camera.

In a recent interview with Live With Kelly and Mark, she shared: "It was amazing. It was like being back at season one, where you're just learning everything again and I got to work with our cast, who are incredible, all my friends, in a new way, all of our crew who are amazing."

Balfe continued: "Yeah, I was just buzzing for the whole five weeks."

Reflecting on her directing ambitions, Balfe expressed uncertainty about whether every actor wanted to step behind the camera.

She elaborated: "I think the thing that really excites me and interests me is being able to take that overview and being able to tell a multitude of other stories because you're taking the broader view."
