A Place in the Sun fans were left stunned by a couple's 'cheeky stunt' after they submitted a 'lowball' bid on the Channel 4 programme. During a repeat episode that aired on Thursday, June 25, host Ben Hillman was tasked with locating the ideal holiday retreat for golf-loving pair John and Adele, who had their hearts set on Murcia, Spain.

With a £100,000 budget at their disposal, the duo were searching for a two-bedroom home, preferably featuring a bathtub or scope for installing one, alongside the essential mountain panorama and close access to a golf course. The couple, who had been together for more than a decade, had specific requirements in mind: a generous kitchen and that vital mountain outlook. Ben presented five properties that met certain criteria, but it was one particular flat on a golf resort, boasting an expansive terrace with breathtaking vistas, that captured the pair's attention, despite its somewhat compact kitchen, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Ben conceded: "I had hoped to give you that fantastic, all singing, all dancing kitchen but I don't think I've quite delivered on that front, but I have given you a light-filled kitchen that has the potential to be expanded into the utility space."

The property was also enticingly listed below budget at £92,000, which eventually prompted Adele and John to submit their offer.

The couple opted to take a gamble with a low bid of £80,000, despite the property already being listed at a reduced price.

However, presenter Ben was left surprised, disclosing that the offer was insufficient and that the property had generated considerable interest from other prospective purchasers.

While their opening offer was turned down, they managed to negotiate a more favourable deal with the estate agent and ultimately secured the property for £85,840.

The offer left viewers at home astounded when the episode first aired, with numerous people flocking to social media at the time to voice their astonishment.

One viewer tweeted: "A cheeky offer. Shock ..... #aplaceinthesun." (sic)

Another commented: "80k...the answer starts in F and ends in off #aplaceinthesun." (sic)

A third viewer was incensed, saying: "80k? ! There is lowballing And then there is downright p***takery #aplaceinthesun." (sic)

Meanwhile, another asked: "Is Adele taking the p***?? £80k." (sic)

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4.
