Netflix teases 'catastrophic' drama in The Diplomat season 3 as trailer drops

Netflix has just offered thriller enthusiasts a tantalising peek into the 'catastrophic' drama about to unfold in its highly-rated political thriller.

The Diplomat initially arrived on the streaming platform in 2023 and has subsequently captivated audiences with the tale of American diplomat Kate Wyler (portrayed by Keri Russell).

Now, the streaming giant has just unveiled the official trailer for its third series, scheduled to debut on October 16th.

The two-minute preview plunges viewers straight into the thick of the drama following the president's demise, which raises serious questions about his death.

Netflix's synopsis reveals: "Ambassador Kate Wyler lives the particular nightmare that is getting what you want. She just accused Vice President Grace Penn (portrayed by Allison Janney) of hatching a terrorist plot and admitted she's after the VP's job," reports the Mirror.

"But now the President is dead, Kate's husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) may have inadvertently killed him, and Grace Penn is leader of the free world."

With the new political leader now in position, the synopsis continues: "None of this slows Hal's campaign to land Kate the vice presidency.

"Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, an increasingly complicated friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison, and an unnerving bond with First Gentleman Todd Penn."

After the trailer's launch, fans struggled to contain their enthusiasm.

One rushed to Netflix's YouTube comments and gushed: "OH MY GOODNESS! This is INSANE!!!" One viewer expressed their excitement, stating: "I'M SO EXCITED THE SHOW IS BACK!!"
