Netflix has added a Western series that some fans have labelled "perfect". The show stars two huge Hollywood stars and has received high praise from both critics and viewers. Netflix UK subscribers have been treated to a slew of new titles as of late, including movies and top-rated TV shows. The first season of this series, which has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 88 per cent, has now been added to Netflix.

1923 is a prequel to Yellowstone starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. It takes place, as the title suggests, in 1923 and follows a generation of the Dutton family who navigate troubling times as historical events like the Great Depression and Prohibition take place. It follows the other Yellowstone prequel, 1883, which premiered in 2021 and was met with positive reviews from fans of the popular Western franchise.

Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford play Cara and Jacob Dutton, the heads of the family who raise John Sr. and Spencer Dutton. Ford plays the older brother of James Dutton, who was played by Tim McGraw in 1883.

Reviews from critics about this series are largely positive, while audience reviews are more mixed. However, some viewers went as far as to call the show "perfect".

One Rotten Tomatoes reviewer said: "Perfect, really loved it." A second shared: "1923 is a series that stands as a true work of art, with perfection reflected in even the smallest details. Sensational."

A third shared: "Very intense series. Great acting and actors. Great storytelling. One of the best of the Yellowstone Saga."

However, not everyone was convinced. One viewer said: "I’m not sure why the storyline necessitated pornography, but some of the scenes were disgusting and disturbing."

A second wrote: "I'm a big fan of Taylor Sheridan, I've loved everything he's written up until this point but I cannot get behind this series. It's far too slow burning and did not live up to the Yellowstone name. Very disappointing especially considering the mega names cast."

A third commented: "Can Taylor ever write anything where the women don't have to go through hell and then die horrible deaths? Shame on you Tayor. Poor writing skills."

As well as 1923, Netflix UK subscribers were treated to a number of new titles on July 9, including Skyscraper (2018), Under a Dark Sun (2025) and Building the Band (2025).
