BBC Breakfast: Nina admits she's a 'bad friend' to Jon Kay

BBC Breakfast presenter Jon Kay's wife, Francesca Kasteliz, has spoken about the challenges she faces while trying to instil confidence in their children.

Francesca is currently a respected TV coach with over two decades of experience in the television industry.

She recently appeared on Maria Andreas Newman's podcast, What the Mum!, and discussed gender differences she has noticed in her clients.

The former BBC correspondent revealed that her experiences with coaching men and women in television have made her reflect on her own parenting style.

She shared: "I see men and women and it is the women who struggle most with confidence all the time. They're the ones who will admit to it at least, and they're the ones who actually want to tackle it.

"I think there's a lot around how we're brought up as children. This makes me really question how I bring up my - I've got two boys and a girl, so I'm always thinking about how I'm treating them, and I don't want to treat them differently.

She added: "I'm trying to give them the same values. There's a lot about society's pressure on women. This label about being bossy if we speak up. That still exists, but I think it's getting better."

Francesca met Jon while working at the Bristol branch of the BBC in 1998. She had a successful career as a BBC News presenter and reporter, even winning a Royal Television Society award before transitioning into coaching.

She has assisted clients who work for big-name broadcasters in the UK, including the BBC, CBBC, and Channel 4.

The coach sometimes looks back fondly on her television days, and once posted a throwback to an appearance she made on the BBC in 1999, saying: "My son found this old footage on the internet and howled with laughter. Mainly at my hairstyle, I think."

Jon and Francesca have three children together and currently live in Bristol with their kids and 14-year-old cocker spaniel. While Jon tends to keep his personal life private, he shared a glimpse into his frenetic family life during the pandemic.

In 2021, he tweeted: "Filing a radio report while contending with kids shouting, wife on the phone, washing machine whirring, doorbell ringing, postman delivering, dog barking, builders banging, school playground next door."
