Strictly: Katya pushes Wynne's hand off her waist

Wynne Evans has confessed to being "absolutely heartbroken" following an 'awkward moment' with Katya Jones on Strictly Come Dancing.

The Go Compare celebrity found himself embroiled in controversy this weekend after he was spotted seemingly placing his hand on Katya's waist, which she appeared to brush off as he attempted to do it again. The clip was widely shared on social media, leading to Katya issuing a statement to clarify that she did not feel uncomfortable.

Today, Wynne made his usual appearance on his radio show, where he expressed his devastation over the comments being made and affirmed that he and Katya are "really good friends".

Ahead of his BBC Radio Wales show, he stated: "Basically, firstly I want to say I'm absolutely heartbroken about the things that are being said about me in the past day. It's not nice to live in that time.

"Katya and I are really really close and we're really good friends and on Saturday night, we made a stupid joke that went wrong. We thought it was really funny. It has been totally misinterpreted."

He later referred to Katya's statement and apologised if their joke had caused any offence, reports Birmingham Live.

"Everything is on Katya's socials, she's explained she doesn't feel uncomfortable and we have a great friendship. I'm sorry if anybody was offended by it. It was a joke. There's no real story really.

"I feel weird apologising as I don't feel like I've done anything. I misjudged it. If there's a joke, I'm usually at the centre of it. That's basically it and now I just want to keep dancing."

The duo released a video following the buzz caused by the clip, in which they expressed regret for their playful behaviour.

Katya remarked: "Hello everybody it's Wynne and Katya here. We just wanted to say we were just messing around in the Clauditorium on Saturday night and just want to say sorry. It was a silly joke," and Wynne chimed in with: "Yes sorry."

The message accompanying their post stated: "Apologies for this tonight we were just messing around. We really are amazing friends. The high 5's is a running joke. Have a great evening @katyajones."

Strictly Come Dancing airs weekends on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
