A Good Morning Britain presenter was absent this morning, prompting a last-minute shake-up to the lineup.

Jonathan Swain had to be called into Good Morning Britain this morning at the last minute as one of his news presenter colleagues failed to make an appearance.

It is usually Charlotte Hawkins or Ranvir Singh who front the breaking news portion of the show.

It was not made clear why they were absent from the ITV programme, however, Jonathan took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share his excitement at being on screen this morning.

He typed: "With heavy rain around the country - a good day to be called up for a last-minute appearance in the ⁦@GMB studio."

It was quickly reposted by the official GMB account.

Jonathan is broadcaster and journalist who reports from around the world as GMB's Senior News Correspondent.

For 20 years he has reported on everything from war zones to world cups. He famously challenged Prime Minister Boris Johnson when the PM ended up hiding in a fridge.

He appeared to replace Charlotte after the former had previously spoken on how she had to work twice as hard as her male colleagues to "prove" herself.

The Good Morning Britain co-presenter, 48, said she feared giving people a reason to "doubt" her as she rose through the ranks of broadcasting, in way that the men in her position didn’t have to.

"As a young female presenter, I felt I had to work twice as hard to prove myself," she told Prima magazine.

"Starting out, I got the impression that, as a young woman, I couldn't give people any reason to doubt me, whether that was getting something factually wrong or asking a silly question."

Charlotte said that things have "improved" since she started out in the late 1990s, with women now able to do the same "breadth" of jobs as men and given the same "authority".

She said: "But I'm glad that things have improved since then; once upon a time, female political correspondents were rare, but now women do the same breadth of jobs as men and are rewarded with the same status, credibility and authority."

The presenter started as a broadcaster for ITV and LBC Radio in 1999 and went on to work as a co-anchor for Meridian Tonight and then Sky News, where she presented Sunrise with Eamonn Holmes.

She joined ITV’s Good Morning Britain in 2014 and is now part of an all-female presenting line-up, including Susanna Reid, Kate Garraway and Ranvir Singh, with a rotating cast of male co-hosts.

Meanwhile Ranvir has shared her personal health struggle which is made worse by the demands of her job.

Speaking to podcast host Holly Rubenstein on her show The Travel Diaries, Ranvir said she has "diagnosed herself" with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
