BBC Bargain Hunt host says ‘I’m wrong’ as couple make huge profit on ‘cheap’ find

Bargain Hunt's blue team Joseph and Rachel managed to walk away with a profit of £73 and a ‘Golden Gavel' as they achieved three wins in a row.

Bargain Hunt: Presenter speechless over huge profit

Bargain Hunt host Charlie Ross was forced to admit that he was ‘wrong’ after a couple made an unexpected profit. During Thursday’s episode of the BBC hit show, viewers saw red team John and Charlie take on blue team Joseph and Rachel in Barckley, Northamptonshire.

Each team was given £300 to spend on a number of items which are then sold at auction at, hopefully, a profit. The Reds were joined by antiques expert Thomas Forrester, while the Blues were in the capable hands of Stephanie Connell.

Speaking at the start of the show, Charlie asked the blue team: “Who will take charge today?” Joseph replied: “I think when it comes to haggling with someone or making the deal happen, that’s Rach.”

When asked about their antique knowledge, Rachel added: “It’s minimal but we’re competitive." The red team were up first and they made an overall profit of £37. They broke even on their first item, a novelty bill holder, which sold for £90. Meanwhile their footstool bought for £35 - sold for £50.

A ceramic panel they bought for £8 then sold for £25 and finally their surprise item sold for £90. The Red Team were up next and they were off to a strong start after selling their first item, a £60 Lalique fish, for £90.

It was their next Item that shocked everyone, the couple brought in a pair of Chinese Cloisonne vases but expert Charlie wasn’t sure that they would make much profit on the ashe bids started off low with the first offer of £40.

As the bids started to reach the 100 mark, Charlie turned to the couple and said: “Well I’m proved wrong.” In the end they managed to walk away with £170.

Their final item was a West German pottery vase, which was bought for only £17 and in a shock turn they managed to get a ‘Golden Gavel’ as they made three profits in a row.

Stephanie then surprised the team with her expert purchase, a carriage foot warmer she spent £30 on. This sold for £55, bringing the Reds' total gain to a huge £73.
