BBC Breakfast: Charlie Stayt in candid chat with Miriam Margolyes

BBC Breakfast star Charlie Stayt was left blushing after he interviewed cheeky actress Miriam Margolyes.

The popular news programme headed in a bold direction as they showed a clip of Charlie's sit-down interview with Miriam on Thursday morning's show (July 25). The 83-year-old spoke to Charlie about her upcoming live show in Edinburgh and how she wants to grace the stage for "one last time" for a Dickens-inspired production.

But the news anchor couldn't help but also address the elephant in the room which is Miriam's outlandish discussions on sex and how the topic has shaped her career over the years.

Charlie said: "I love that you say that the first half is Dickens, the second half is - the first word you used is sex. I mean that's a pointer!"

Miriam replied: "People are always asking me about it. Even Louis Theroux, who is a very serious and important documentarian - when I had an interview with him, he just didn't go above the waist, he was below the waist the whole time. In the end, I had to sort of pull him up a bit."

Laughing at her comment in amazement, Charlie then dug a little deeper. He said: "You do have a reputation, which you may or may not like for being very open and sometimes using language that like on BBC Breakfast we wouldn't normally use."

The actress responded: "I've always been naughty and I've always used naughty words. Even when I was at school, as soon as I used a naughty word I used it because it made people laugh, because it got a reaction!"

Miriam then went on to add that she felt confident to let it "all hang out" while on chat shows when being asked about her personal life.

Charlie then asked whether Miriam's sexual discourse has got in the way of her acting career. She replied: "No I don't actually. I don't think it's got in the way."

Closing their candid chat, Charlie said he felt like he had been on a "rollercoaster of nonsense and serious stuff". Giggling at his comment, Miriam said: "Well I love that because we can all say knickers in a minute and have a laugh."

On a more serious note, Miriam also spoke about her recent heart procedure.

On a more serious note, Miriam also spoke about her recent heart procedure and explained to Charlie that she now has two valves. The star has been grappling with health and mobility challenges for years and recently revealed she hasn't long left to live.
