Emmerdale fans were left shouting at their screens over Tom King’s latest treatment of beloved dog Piper.

On Wednesday (July 24) the soap revealed to viewers what exactly went down during Belle Dingle and Tom King’s cottage stay. Belle (Eden Taylor-Droper) has been at the centre of a gripping domestic abuse storyline with new husband Tom (James Chase) this year.

Recently, the pair, and Belle’s dog, Piper, left the famous Emmerdale village to stop at a cottage Wales - where Tom is secretly planning to move permanently.

Their sudden exit sparked worry with Belle’s family, who tracked Belle down and headed to the mystery cottage where they made a startling discovery: blood streaked across a door.

After seeing the blood on the door, fans were fearful that Tom had killed Piper, Belle’s dog.

And Wednesday’s episode (July 24) revealed what exactly happened - with flashback scenes from Tom and Belle's arrival at the cottage.

During their stay, dog Piper ended up running off. Fuming, and in a bid to ‘train’ the pup, Tom left the pooch outside all evening - much to its distress.

The dog could be heard howling later on in the evening as Tom and Belle had dinner - with Belle pleading Tom to let Piper in. But Tom was adamant and the dog stopped outside all night.

Luckily, Belle was able to give her dog a bowl of water when Tom left the cottage for a while. Locked in, Belle was forced to climb out of a window to attend to her distressed dog, before running back inside when he returned.

And it’s fair to say Tom’s treatment of the dog left fans fuming. On X, formerly known as Twitter, one person said: “NO he’s so evil that dog has been outside all night! And now he’s locked her in the house so she can’t go and get her."

A second wrote: "I can’t watch this is disturbing." Someone else penned: "Cue the complaints to Ofcom."

Fortunately, Piper the dog was unharmed during the episode, as Belle managed to make an escape, with Piper. After running away from Tom across the Welsh countryside, she flagged down a bus and jumped on, leaving Tom behind.
