Saturday Kitchen fans slams ‘easy’ dish labelling chef’s creation as ‘too much faff’

Saturday Kitchen viewers were left less than impressed by a complicated dish that a guest chef kept referring to as "easy and quick".

Saturday Kitchen: Chef Richard Bainbridge serves up his dish

Saturday Kitchen fans criticised a recipe for being a lot of “work” despite claims that it was an “easy” summer dish to recreate.

As always, Matt Tebbutt and wine expert Olly Smith welcomed two chefs and a guest to the BBC morning show, to show off their culinary skills and share stories of what’s going on in their lives.

The chefs this week were Anna Haugh and Richard Bainbridge who were bringing the summer vibes to the studio with their lighter dishes for everyone, including guest comedian Lauren Smyth, to try.

While Anna opted in for balsamic prawns with cherry tomatoes and creamy polenta which went down a treat, things got a little more complex with Richard’s radish tart and super summer salad with dijon mustard dressing.

“Right Richard, there’s a lot going on here”, Tebbutt initially remarked.

“I know, compared to Anna’s, there was three things, we’ve got a lot - this is beautifully simple but there’s a lot going on.”

He shared that the tart was inspired by his daughters who have been growing radishes in the garden since lockdown.

Richard also included various herbs and edible flowers, all of which he says can be grown in the garden.

As well as listing the shopping list of ingredients, mostly homegrown, Richard showed how to make radish jelly to go on top as well as a “quick” and “easy” dijon dressing.

Unfortunately for the award-winning chef, viewers at home didn’t seem to take to the idea of making such a complicated meal.

“What a load of faff”, one fan wrote, with another writing: “No one’s doing this on a Saturday, chap”.

Someone else commented: “If ‘healthy’ eating always involves this much work then no wonder people tend to eat ‘unhealthy’.”

Another joked: “‘...and remind us [what] it’s called.’ ‘A ridiculous amount of f*****g about for something that is, at best, two mouthfuls of food.’”

“While another viewer simply stated: “This is *already* far too much b****y faff.”

Despite reservations from viewers, Richard insisted that this was a “showstopper dish”.

He commented: “This is probably the most chef-iest thing I’ve done on the show but it is worth it.

“And like I say, if you’re doing this on a Saturday, with a lovely chilled glass of Chardonnay, it’s the perfect start to the weekend.”

Saturday Kitchen airs at 10am every Saturday on BBC One.
