BBC Breakfast’s presenters Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty returned to the red sofa with insight into the reactions after the first game of the UEFA Euros 2024.

They spoke to sports presenter John Watson who was live in Munich, Germany with thoughts from fans who watched Scotland’s 5-1 loss.

Frankie who travelled to the country for his first-ever game remained hopeful and shared: “Hopefully we bounce back,” and reflected on the “great atmosphere”.

While another supporter Stuart looked forward to a “good result” to the team’s game against Switzerland on Wednesday.

Despite the coverage, viewers were left distracted by the volume of people playing snare drums while marching in the background.

As the reactions wrapped up, Stuart shouted: “Go Scotland,” to which John said: “They’re going to need plenty more of that if they’re going to turn it around.”

Ahead of the interviews, John stated that the Brauertag, a traditional German festival celebrating Brewers’ Day was taking place.

The festivities attracted tourists who could be seen flocking and taking photos of the celebration.

Taking to X with fury, @annanderson2012 fumed: "Typical insensitivity! German traditional festival taking place and British football is more important.”

They continued: “Reporter encouraged a fan to shout support for Scotland. Good grief.”

In response @Susan05713606 echoed: “Cringe moment and he was in the way too.”

@ValeMan65260189 added: ”Made worse by Charlie Stayt suggesting that the sports bloke try on one of their hats!”

After Charlie said he was “rather drawn to their plumage,” John highlighted the axes the German marchers were holding and as Naga remarked, the hat intrigue was “well dodged.”
