The One Show hosts on Princess Kate's return to public life

Alex Jones halted news about King Charles's Trooping the Colour ceremony and shared her delight following Princess Kate's announcement.

The BBC presenter was joined by her co-star Clara Amfo as the pair shared the good news with viewers after it was revealed the Princess of Wales will be in attendance at the royal event being held on Saturday (June 14). She will join His Majesty's ceremony in her first royal appearance since December.

Kate has remained completely out of the spotlight this year after undergoing preventative chemotherapy for an undefined type of cancer. She publicly revealed her battle in a video address in March.

The palace confirmed the news at exactly 6pm today (June 14), less than 24 hours before celebrations are due to begin.

Alex began: "Now there is another big event happening tomorrow.

"Over a thousand troops from the five regiment foot guards will celebrate the official birthday of His Majesty The King with a spectacular military parade in Central London, Trooping the Colour."

Clara said: "And an hour ago, it was announced the Princess of Wales will be attending in her first public appearance since it was revealed she was diagnosed with cancer in March."

Alex, 47, could not help but gush over Kate's appearance, saying: "She looks great, doesn't she?"

Kate’s last public appearance was on December 25, when she attended the Christmas morning service at Sandringham with other royal family members.

In a statement shared on the Prince and Princess of Wales X account the mother-of-three shared a photo stood underneath a tree.

She began by thanking fans for their messages of support which has admittedly helped both her and William "through some of the harder times". The princess admitted there "are good days and bad days" but said on those bad days she often feels tired.

Kate went on: "My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home.

"I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.

"I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal."

"Thank you so much for your continued understanding, and to all of you who have so bravely shared your stories with me," she concluded.

Tomorrow's Trooping the Colour, the King's birthday parade, is one of the most prominent events in the royal calendar.
