It’s almost that time of year again when 12 sexy singletons leave the UK behind in a bid to find romance in the villa. Returning to screens on June 3, viewers will see host welcome a fresh batch of islanders to their new home for the next few weeks.

One of whom includes 21-year-old Ciaran Davies, who spoke to Express.co.uk and other media publications ahead of his Love Island debut. When asked about how his friends and family reacted to him appearing on the show, the South Wales-born star revealed his dad gave him some brutal advice.

He said: “I told my family just after it got confirmed that I was flying to Majorca, I talked to my mum about it first, just because she happened to be next to me! She was very excited, she enjoys watching the show.

“It’s nice for her to see her son on television, it is a nice sight, she’s very supportive, maybe a little bit too excited, constantly asking me questions! Then my father, at the start he went, ‘yeah, ok’.”

However, Ciaran added that once the news sunk in for his dad properly, he became very supportive. In fact, his dad told him to make sure he got some nice photos for his Instagram when going on a recent trip.

When questioned about whether or not his parents are worried about any negativity that may come from appearing on the show, Ciaran shared his dad’s hilarious response before flying to Spain.

He said: “The only thing my father was concerned about is that I’m not boring funnily enough.

“As they dropped me off at the airport my father gave me a hug and said, ‘Just please don’t be boring and have a laugh, will you?'. That’s the only thing he said really!”

However, the 21-year-old expressed the most worrying thing for his mum will be the fact she can’t call him up to see if he’s doing ok.

He continued: “All of the staff in the company, they’ve made it very clear, they ring my family once a day to let them know how I’m doing.

“It’s always nice to know that they’ve got someone there they can contact to make sure that I’m ok.”

Joining Ciaran in the villa this year is 24-year-old Mimii Ngulube from Portsmouth, who isn’t afraid to speak her mind if it comes down to it.

When asked what she’d do if another girl in the villa wasn’t being treated well, she told Express.co.uk: “I’m going to tell her, ‘Babes stand up, you’re better than this'.

Although viewers will have to wait to see if any drama unfolds, the bookies have already predicted good things for Ciaran as William Hill has his odds at 7/2 for being the top male.

William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “With the contestants for this summer’s series of Love Island being revealed over the Bank holiday weekend, we’ve seen early backing for Ciaran Davies and Samantha Kenny in the outright male and female winner markets.

“Ciaran will have the Welsh nation behind him at 7/2, whilst the Liverpudlians will be rooting for Samantha at the same price to bring home her slice of the £50,000 prize as the show kicks off next week.”

Love Island returns to screens on Monday 3rd June at 9pm with the first episode being simulcast across ITV1, ITV2, ITVX & STV.
