BGT: Simon Cowell congratulates Ant on baby news and gifts update

Ant McPartlin has broken his silence on becoming a dad after welcoming his first child, a baby boy with wife Anne-Marie Corbett on May 14.

The 48-year-old made his first television appearance on Monday's first semi-final of Britain's Got Talent and talk soon turned to the big news in Ant's life.

As Ant and Dec spoke to the judges before the first contestant took to the stage, Simon Cowell took the opportunity to congratulate his long-time friend and colleague.

Simon, 64, expressed: "By the way, can I just say congratulations to you Ant," before the audience erupted into a huge applause for the new dad.

Ant took a bow as he responded: "Thank you very much, thank you very much, thank you," before Simon added: "I'm so happy for you really."

Dec put a supportive hand on his best friend's shoulder as he beamed from ear to ear for Ant.

Ant then told Simon: "Thank you for your lovely gift," before turning to Bruno Tonioli, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon and swiping: "Judges still waiting on yours."

The trio laughed it off as Simon assured Ant the gift was from all four of them.

However, Ant cheekily quipped: "It was signed by you, not them!," before they moved on to the first act.

"Baby is beautiful, Mummy’s a legend, Sisters are over the moon. Dad’s a mess!"

Fans and well-wishers flocked to social media to send their heartiest congratulations to the first-time dad.

Britain's Got Talent semi finals continue all this week at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
