Fans tear up over Dave Myers' 'bittersweet' final Hairy Bikers episode after tragic death
The late Dave Myers heartbreakingly claimed he was "optimistic" about the future while featuring in his last episode of BBC's The Hairy Bikers Go West, alongside Si King.
Fans were left in tears after the final Hairy Bikers episode, featuring the late Dave Myers, aired across the BBC. The broadcast featured a tribute to the chef, 66, who died last month, surrounded by friends and family.
Dave, from Barrow-in-Furness, was best known for travelling the world with his professional partner Si King, 57, as one half of The Hairy Bikers. As well as sampling various cultures’ cuisines, the duo cooked up food from different regions and regularly met up with famous faces.
Late last month, Si announced that he had some “sad news to share” and revealed that Dave had died after being diagnosed with cancer two years ago. He wrote that the chef had “passed away peacefully at home” and that he couldn’t “put into words” how he felt.
“My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can't follow,” he added. “I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime.” The final episode of The Hairy Bikers Go West featuring Dave has now aired across the BBC.
During the instalment, the duo headed down to the West coast to Bristol. In the final moments of the episode, Dave could be heard saying: “We get into Bristol, and then the world just opens.
“You know, there’s memories here, a lot of memories for both of us. But what’s lovely is the optimism of looking forward, and certainly on the food front.
“It’s very, very exciting and very optimistic. We’ve got the best of the past and the best of the future.'”
Following the show, the credits rolled and a heartfelt tribute to Dave read: “In loving memory of our friend, Dave Myers. 1957 - 2024.”
Following the broadcast, fans took to social media to have their say on the posthumous statement.
One viewer wrote: “Watched the final episode of The Hairy Bikers Go West, last night.
