The Princess of Wales has since released a statement following speculation about her Mother's Day picture with children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Russell Myers discusses Princess Kate's Mother's Day photo
Lorraine Kelly has expressed her thoughts on the speculation surrounding the Princess of Wales' Mother's Day picture, shared by Kensington Palace on Sunday. In the first snap shared of Kate since she underwent surgery in January, the royal looked every inch the doting mum smiling next to the three children she shares with Prince William; Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Captioning the image, she wrote: "Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months. Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day. C."
Since its release however, news agencies decided to pull the photograph amid claims is had been manipulated. Discussing the situation with The Daily Mirror's royal editor Russell Myers on her show on Monday, the presenter branded the move "clumsy".
Kicking off the segment, Russell said the photo was "a bit of a shocker for Kensington Palace" as he pointed out the edited parts of the picture. Sharing her thoughts, Lorraine discussed the "scrutiny" the royals had faced but admitted she found the move "stupid".
She shared: "It's clumsy, do you give them the benefit of the doubt? It could be worse than that. It does show you what scrutiny they're always under, doesn't it? It really does, but what a stupid thing to do! If they have done that, the advisors, it's dumb I think is the word."
Russell went on to discuss Kate's uncle's opinion on the controversial snap following his interview on Good Morning Britain today.
Quizzed on the picture by Susanna Reid and Ed Balls, ex Celebrity Big Brother star Gary Goldsmith said: "The smiles on faces said it all for me.
"I thought it was beautiful. Obviously the family wouldn't be the ones to do any touch ups so if that's gone through some filter before its gone out to the broader world, they won't be doing that themselves.
"But all I was looking at was the faces and the smiles and it just looked like a beautiful family that they are.
