GMB's Richard Madeley 'unsettled' as he recalls family home being burgled while asleep
On Monday's instalment of Good Morning Britain, host Richard Madeley was talking about the latest headlines which struck a chord with something he once experienced himself.
Richard Madeley recalls being burgled in Manchester
Richard Madeley told the Good Morning Britain panel that according to one newspaper, police have solved no burglaries in half of the country. As the ITV show spoke on the serious matter, he delved into his own experience of being burgled.
He said: “I’ve said this before on the show, we got burgled in Manchester about 25 years ago. The Manchester police were fantastic, they were around in about 10 minutes.
“They dust for fingerprints and got fingerprints everywhere. They took it really seriously. Alright, they didn’t solve it and they didn’t catch them but they did try. They did everything they could.”
As Kevin Maguire questioned whether or not his treatment by the police could’ve been down to his TV fame, Richard denied that was the case. He replied: “I’ll tell you why, I remember talking about it at work and other people who had been burgled in the last 5 years and they were exactly the same.
“So, no I don’t think it was anything to do with being on the telly and it shouldn’t be.” However, the GMB star revealed that they first discovered they had been robbed because of his son Jack.
He continued: “It was a Saturday morning and Jack was old enough to get up and get his own breakfast by then.
“He knocked on our bedroom door at about eight o’clock and he said, ‘Daddy why have you hidden the microwave?’ I said, ‘Don’t be silly Jack go away’.
“He came back once again and he said, ‘Daddy why have you hidden the television?’ I said, ‘Ah, I think we’ve had a visit from burglar Bill and indeed we had.”
Richard added: “It was very unsettling to know they had come in while we were sleeping.”

Speaking about the headline, guest panellist Andrew Pierce gave his thoughts on the authorities' attitude to burglaries.
He said: “I think it’s appalling, the police have decided these events don’t matter and they’re not serious, they do matter to people.”
Andrew explained he’d been a victim of being burgled and it was horrible as he highlighted the police should give more attention to the issue.
Richard highlighted that the police said three years ago they would take the crime more seriously and attend every burglary and would take each crime on its merit, but it’s clearly not happened.
However, that doesn’t appear to be the only time Richard found himself a victim of crime as he was once robbed at a local pub.
At the end of last year, the presenter wrote in the Spectator that a man had put a magazine down on the table he was at asking for the host the buy it.
When he refused, the man left with his iPhone underneath the magazine without Richard realising until he’d left the pub.
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am.
