Kate Garraway says she's been in 'tears' after GMB return
On Thursday morning, Kate Garraway was reduced to tears as she joined Ben Shephard on Good Morning Britain. Before the presenters got stuck into the latest headlines, the 56-year-old revealed she had cried earlier on as she returned to the studio.
She said: “It’s lovely to be back here, it’s odd to be back here! I feel very weird, the make-up girls had me in tears this morning just by saying, ‘Hello’. I’ve got some lovely hugs from everybody already.
“Nobody hug me, nobody be nice to me! That’s what I say. Thank you to all of you at home as well, I know I mentioned it Monday but you have been incredible.”
The presenter went on to say she wants people to treat her normally, although confessed nobody knows how to anymore. Making fun of her co-star, she quipped: “Particularly you! You’re used to being rude.”
Ben joked he’d give her some leeway on her return before paying tribute to Derek Draper’s funeral last Friday. He commented: “It was an extraordinary funeral, it was one of the most extraordinary send-offs.”
As Kate told Ben she wanted to make it all about her husband as she touched on the support she’s recently received. She added: “His friends were fantastic, his family were amazing. Darcey and Billy, oh my goodness me, they continue to be so and have always been so.
“It was really lovely to feel so much love from everybody here.”
The 56-year-old confessed she’s very lucky to have the support from her work colleagues as she makes her comeback to the show.

Although the presenter was on Monday’s instalment of the show via video link from her home, the last time Kate was in the studio was on December 8 2023.
In January, she announced the tragic death of her husband who had been battling long-covid for four and a half years and suffered a cardiac arrest at the end of last year.
The funeral Kate held for Derek was at the Church of St Mary The Virgin in Primrose Hill, the same place they got married back in 2005.
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am.
