ITV's Coronation Street star Jodie Prenger teases new role away from the cobbles
Coronation Street's Glenda Shuttleworth star Jodie Prenger is going back to her musical theatre roots for her latest project.
Coronation Street star Jodie Prenger will be showing off her vocal prowess in her latest role. The star, who plays Glenda Shuttleworth in the ITV soap has revealed that she will be taking part in a one-night only concert production of Gypsy.
Taking to her Instagram, she shared a picture of the star-studded cast with her 39,5000 followers and wrote: "Sing Out Louise! What a bunch, what a cause…and what a show. Hope to see you there! @hopemilltheatre." She will take on the iconic role of stage mother Rose in the production.
Joining her in the show will be former Emmerdale actor Tom Lister, who played Carl King, RuPaul's Drag Race star Divina De Campo, EastEnders' Elaine Peacock star Harriet Thorpe, current Coronation Street star Peter Gunn who plays Brian Packham in the soap and former Corrie star Angela Lonsdale, who played policewoman Emma Watts in the show.
The concert will take place on February 25, at the Opera House in Manchester. It aims to raise funds for Hope Mill Theatre’s "Hope for the Future" campaign, which is trying to secure the future of the award-winning Manchester venue.
The show includes legandary songs including Mama Rose's showstopper, Everything’s Coming Up Roses. Fans were thrilled with the casting news and took to the comments section of Jodie's post to share their joy.
Jodie's Corrie colleague Jane Hazlegrove commented:" You and Tom Lister… and Gunny and Ang… booked! Brilliant work and for a beautiful cause!!! Come on Hope Mill!!!!"

Jodie first came to prominence when she won the BBC talent show I'd Do Anything in 2008, which was searching for an actress to play Nancy in a West End production of Oliver.
She joined Coronation Street in 2022 as undertaker George Shuttlerworth's (played by Tony Maudsley) sassy sister Glenda.
At the time, she described landing the role of the Rovers Return barmaid as "a lifelong dream".
Since arriving on the cobbles, the character has also set up a stage school, Little Big Stars, which has given her the opportunity to showcase her own vocal talents.
Coronation Street is on ITV Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm.
