The Traitors: Claudia Winkleman writes letter to contestants
Fans of The Traitors were left distracted on Wednesday night as the second instalment of the BBC game show kicked off. When the first episode started, viewers saw host Claudia Winkleman sitting at a desk writing a letter to the contestants.
However, while she was reading out what had been written, the 51-year-old wasn’t alone. Viewers were quick to praise her new “co-host”, a gorgeous tawny owl called Barry.
People quickly took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the new addition as @DarksideRJD said: “Love how that owl was ‘winking’ in the entry shot then. Clearly a traitor [sic] #TheTraitors,” With @FrecklesFieldo commenting: “The tawny owl is already my favourite in this season.”
Social media user @Brekkietweets said: “Love Claudia's new co-host”. As @cosycraftcat tweeted: “I like that there is an ominous owl in this series, really adds to the drama.”
Viewer @lolodilello added: “The addition of the owl in this series is *chef's kiss*”. While @DeclanDrum shared: “The owl has been a stand out so far.”
During the first episode, there were already new twists added to the series as the players learned the traitors who had been chosen were allowed to recruit one other player themselves.
Although many revealed they’d like to play the game as a traitor, it was Ash, Harry and Paul who had been selected by Claudia.
However, viewers will have to wait until Thursday night to find out which other contestant they’ve picked to join their dark forces.
The players also were able to gain immunity while taking part in their first task if they chose to take one of the show’s special shields.

In the end, it was Kyra and Jaz who wanted to protect themselves, along with traitor Harry to try and make himself look like a faithful.
Ahead of the series launch, Claudia teased the contestants taking part in this series are more ruthless than in season one.
She said: "In the first season, Maddy [Smedley, a faithful] would say 'I think it's him'... and everyone went 'shhh, you're wrong'.
“And I was just like, 'listen to her!' But here [in series two], you see the first round table, it explodes.
“They want to play the game and they are, impatient is not the right word, but they're more brutal."
It looks as though some of the players are already suspicious of some other people as Diane thought Harry, who is in fact a traitor, was acting shifty while sitting next to her at the roundtable.
Another person trying to stir the plot is Sonja who confessed she likes to be a bit mischievous.
The Traitors continues Thursday on BBC One from 9pm.
