Coronation Street actor 'quits soap' after 15 years as star 'sad to leave'
Coronation Street actor Alex Bain is reportedly set to leave Weatherfield after 15 years on the ITV soap.
Alex Bain will soon exit Coronation Street in an explosive storyline set to air next summer, according to reports.
The soap star, who has played the role of Simon Barlow for the past 15 years, is said to have decided to leave the cobbles.
The Corrie star landed the role as a seven-year-old but it has been claimed that the "time is right to move on".
A source told The Sun: “Alex is sad to be leaving Coronation Street because it really is like a family — but he realises that the time is right to move on.
“He’s very excited about the future and other opportunities.”
Express.co.uk have approached Coronation Street for comment.
The actor, 22, burst onto the ITV soap opera in 2008, playing a seven-year-old Simon Barlow, the son of Peter and Lucy, who previously battled terminal cancer.
Throughout his time on the soap, Alex has been at the centre of dramatic storylines, including domestic abuse.
Away from the cobbles, the young actor made headlines when it emerged he had become a teenage dad. His former girlfriend, Levi, gave birth to their first child not long after celebrating her 16th birthday, when Alex was 17.

Last year, Alex proposed to his ex-girlfriend Mollie Lockwood but in April of this year, it was announced that the couple had split, with the young actor subsequently removing all traces of her from his Instagram.
"They're gutted the relationship didn’t work out, but they're both so young it’s hard to make such a big commitment early on in their lives," an insider told The Sun.
Following their split, Alex took a short break from his role on the ITV soap but later returned.
