Emmerdale’s Kelvin Fletcher details ‘overwhelming’ life change after soap exit
ITV star Kelvin Fletcher left Emmerdale back in 2016 and has since moved to a farm with his wife and four children.
Kelvin Fletcher speaks about his 'overwhelming' change of lifestyle
Actor Kelvin Fletcher, who is best known for playing Andy Sugden in Emmerdale, appeared on Friday’s instalment of Good Morning Britain. The former soap star was speaking about his transition to farm life as he showcased some of his animals on the show.
ITV host Ranvir Singh commented: “It sounds like you really know your stuff. The thing is, people will assume it’s a home from home for you.”
He replied: “I wish! The last two years for us as a family, moving to the countryside and trying to farm, and get your head around farming, has been a whirlwind and a little bit overwhelming at times, if I’m honest.”
“That’s the beauty of this adventure, this new chapter for us. There’s nothing relatable and transferable from my time on Emmerdale unfortunately!”
Originally, the couple were meant to be moving to America for a life change, although they ended up on a 120-acre farm in Macclesfield. However, Kelvin told Ranvir their plans took a turn when the pandemic hit.
He added: “I think subconsciously we wanted a new chapter, something exciting and we ended up finding this little farm.
“We didn’t plan on this, but sometimes the best things in life are those that are unplanned.”
The former Emmerdale star appeared on Good Morning Britain ahead of his ITV special, Fletchers' Family Farm at Christmas.
Airing on Christmas Eve, viewers will be able to see Kelvin and his wife Liz prepare to open their farm for a special festive event.

From baby alpacas, rescued ponies and a new ram, the Fletcher farm is bustling over the Christmas season.
Speaking more about the special on GMB, Kelvin commented: “It’s our story of what it’s like to run a farm as two actors who have never done it before.
“It’s a wholesome show and hopefully it’s a show for all the family to sit around at Christmas time and enjoy.”
Kelvin decided to leave Emmerdale in 2016 after joining the soap as a child in 1996.
At the time, the 39-year-old revealed he had stepped down after 20 years to explore new opportunities.
In true soap fashion, his character Andy Sugden fled custody after being framed for attempted murder by Chrissie White (Louise Marwood).
Viewers will be able to watch Fletcher’s Family Farm at Christmas on Sunday, December 24 on ITV from 11:25am.
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am.
