Helen George on 'pressure' of Call The Midwife Christmas special
Call the Midwife star Helen George has teased there are a few shocks in store for the new season of the BBC show.
The long-running period drama is set to return to screens at the end of the year in a Christmas special before series 13 starts in the New Year.
With filming currently underway, viewers are anticipating the return of many fan-favourites as the show moves into 1969.
However, it appears as though there are going to be some unexpected twists along the way as actress Helen, who plays Trixie Franklin on the show, revealed.
On Wednesday morning, the actress appeared on Zoe Ball’s BBC Radio Two show to speak more about series 13 of Call the Midwife.
When asked what she can share about the new episodes, Helen replied: “We're filming at the moment. So I'm sort of discovering the stories as we go along. It's another exciting year, lots of babies.
"I can't tell you much more than that, there's a few shocks."
Although Helen appeared tight-lipped about the new storylines, there have been reports her character’s new husband Matthew Aylward (played by Olly Rix) is leaving the show.

There have been reports that Matthew is being written out in series 13, despite recently tying the knot with Trixie.
Speaking to The Sun, a source said: “The news of Olly’s departure has left the cast and crew stunned and upset.
“They all thought he was a mainstay on the series after his prominent wedding scenes to Helen last season.
“Some feel it’s a bit unfair and he is well-liked by everyone.”
It’s not yet been confirmed if Matthew is leaving, and he’s still set to appear in the new series alongside many returning favourites.
Fans can expect to see Sister Monica Joan (Judy Parfitt), Cyril Robinson ( Zephryn Taitte), Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter), Nancy Corrigan (Megan Cusack) and Dr Patrick Turner (Stephen McGann) return.
There will also be two new additions to the show as Joyce Highland (Renee Bailey) and Rosalind Clifford (Natalie Quarry) join as two pupils in a new Midwife training scheme.
Speaking about the series, show creator Heidi Thomas said: “After Trixie’s spectacular wedding, the Nonnatus House community feels more tightly-knit than ever, but life in Poplar has never been a fairy tale.
“As 1969 unfolds we will see change and challenge rock the world of our beloved nuns, nurses, medics, and midwives.”
