Netflix’s brand new comedy-thriller series Beef debuted this week, as it follows Amy Lau (played by Ali Wong) and Danny Cho (Steven Yeun) in the aftermath of their bitter road rage accident. But star Wong claims their relationship off-screen is completely different, as the actress detailed her “sweet” relationship with Yeun to Express.co.uk and other media outlets.
Amy and Danny may be arch-enemies in Netflix’s new comedy-drama Beef, but according to star Wong, the pair’s relationship as actors has been blossoming ever since they met on set.
Wong and Yeun barely knew each other when they met for the first time on the set of Beef.
But after filming an entire series together it appears their relationship has taken to new levels.
Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press, Wong detailed how her relationship with Yuen was “by far the best thing I've gotten out of the show”.
The actress was asked to discuss what it was like filming such intense scenes with Yeun and how her relationship with him developed because of that.
Wong went on to explain: “Well in retrospect, we really didn't know each other that well, because I mean…
“But now that we know each other, we thought, oh, no, no, this is, what? This is friendship,” as she recalled the moment she realised she had bonded with her co-star.
The actress then revealed how the pair spent a lot of time together away from the comedy-drama, admitting: “We talk all the time.”
Wong then began to recall a story from last year when she reached out to her co-star for some much-needed support.
She explained: “Then last summer, it was really sweet, because there were, you know, there were times where I was like, ‘Oh, my God’ with the kids.
“And I was like, ‘Steven, can I come over?’ And he was like, ‘Well, yeah, all my childhood friends are here, so you're not gonna know anyone’,” she recalled.
The actress finished telling her story, saying: “‘I don't care. You have a pool?’ I need to come over right now!”
Wong continued her tribute: “Yeah, I mean, it's by far the best thing I've gotten out of the show is my friendships with Steven and Sung Lee and Jake Schreier. And all the rest of the cast too.”
As for their characters’ relationship in the show, it doesn't look like they will ever reach the same levels of friendship.
Wong plays a successful entrepreneur who clearly has some underlying issues while Yeun portrays a struggling handyman.
The pair first meet when they become wrapped up in an intense road-rage incident, where fans see the pair engage in a bunch of heated interactions that later fuel an escalating series of poor decisions.
