Outlander season 5 spoilers: Sam Heughan teases Jamie Fraser’s ‘hard’ future
OUTLANDER is due to return to TV screens sometime later this year, however it looks like Jamie Fraser is set to have an extremely difficult season.
Outlander: Caitriona Balfe shows early season five preparation
Outlander left Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) in a tough position, last season.
After siding with the Redcoats in America, he now has to go to war.
However this poses a number of issues, including the fact he knows who will win the battle, and that he’s fighting for the wrong side.
Jamie has to attempt to keep his and Claire Fraser’s (Caitriona Balfe) best interests at heart, whilst also not messing with fate, or time.
Recently Jamie star Sam spoke to Parade.com to discuss the upcoming fifth season, and how difficult Jamie is going to find the next few episodes.
He reluctantly explained: “I can’t give away too much, obviously.
“But, as we saw in season four, Jamie’s on the side of the Redcoats.
“He’s made this deal with the Redcoats, the British Army, so he’s actually on the opposite side of the side where his allegiance really is and his loyalty lies, but he knows he needs to do it.”
Despite being on the wrong side of the battle, Sam then explained why Jamie is working so hard.
He revealed: “He needs to do it for his family and for his tenants.
For Jamie, that’s a pretty hard thing to do
“He has to secure this land and make it a safe place for them, so he goes in league with the British.”
Sam ominously added: “For Jamie, that’s a pretty hard thing to do.”
Jamie is certainly going to have a lot of emotional and physical work to do in season five, and although he has a good chance of surviving the episodes, no one is safe.
The line up for season five has not yet been revealed, but Jamie’s aunt, Jocasta (Maria Doyle Kennedy) could well be on her way back to the show.
Jocasta first arrived in season five, and acted as the owner of a plantation in Carolina.
However Jocasta actor Maria recently spoke to Metro.co.uk about the role, and how difficult it was to play in the previous season.
She explained: “Her blindness introduces a physical challenge that is new for me.
“The addition of an accent is always fun and emotionally she is complicated and compelling.
“[She’s] a fiercely intelligent woman in a world where women struggled to exert any power.”
Outlander season five is expected to return to STARZ and Amazon Prime Video later this year.
