BBC weather: Carol Kirkwood predicts SOARING temperatures after big chill
BBC WEATHER delivered a nice surprise this morning as Carol Kirkwood explained how the UK is set to experience a rise in temperatures. Does this mean the winter chill is over?
BBC weather: UK to be hit by frost and 'persisent' rain
Carol Kirkwood was back on BBC Breakfast earlier today and delivered the five-day weather forecast.
Viewers tuned in to hear some good news as the metrologist explained a welcoming rise in temperatures set to hit later this week.
And it seems winter has passed and spring is going to come earlier than expected.
It comes as this morning experienced a “cold start to the day” but Carol confirmed “this weeks weather is going to be quite different from last week”.
“High pressure [will] exert its influence over us, things will be more settled and we’ll see some more sunshine.
“At times, weather fronts going in from the west will introduce some rain,” she added.
Today’s temperatures “are hovering just above freezing [and] there’s a risk of ice across the Northern part of the UK, but a fair bit of sunshine”.
“For a lot of us it is going to be a bright day, but there will be more cloud turning that sunshine a little bit hazier, so we may see some rain,” Carol continued.
“Temperature wise five degrees celsius in Aberdeen, 11 degrees celsius as we sweep down towards Plymouth.”
As for the evening and overnight, rain is going to “sweep the nation” and will “occasionally [turn] heavier”.
“Under clear skies [some] could see perhaps just a touch of frost," as temperates drop below freezing.
As for the rest of the week, “temperatures are going to turn warmer, [and] milder, we’ll see higher temperatures than we have done in a while a lot of us getting into double figures”.
Carol said: “First thing tomorrow, won’t be double figures but there will be some sunshine to see first thing.
“By tomorrow afternoon, temperatures will range from 10 degrees celsius to a high of 13 degrees celsius in Belfast.”
For the middle of the week “it’s going to be a breezier day generally”.
This weeks weather is going to be quite different from last week.
“We start off on a nippy note, clear skies some sunshine to start with, cloud coming in turning the sunshine hazy before some rain arrives much later in the day.”
“Nothing wrong with the temperatures if you like it a little bit milder, again we’re looking at the range from eleven degrees celsius even twelve degrees celsius in some places,” she remarked.
“As we head on into Thursday it’s very much the same.
“A lot of unsettled conditions, fair bit of sunshine, breezy and still those temperatures in double figures,” she concluded.
BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One weekdays from 6am.
