Dancing On Ice 2019: Former winner spills on making THIS sacrifice ahead of new series
DANCING ON ICE 2019 is back on television screens this evening and last year’s winner Jake Quickenden has revealed his secret to being crowned champion.
Dancing On Ice is back and ahead of the first skate off and celebrity elimination, last year’s winner has revealed what it took to make it to the final.
Jake Quickenden won the 2018 series alongside professional ice skating partner Vanessa Bauer after twelve weeks of successful performances.
He spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about his journey to winning the trophy.
When discussing the advice he would give to this year’s celebrity contestants, Jake simply said: “Don’t have a day off.”
“I didn’t have a single day off when I did it. I train for five, six hours a day, everyday.
“Just because I was so focused on doing well and when it’s something like a new skill, I wanted to put 100 per cent into it.
“I’d say sacrifice going out with your mates, having a drink, because it’s not going to be for long and if you do want to win then that’s what you’ve got to do,” he concluded.
Looking back on his win, Jake explained what it felt like to be victorious.
“It was an amazing [feeling to win]!” He exclaimed.
“I just really, really enjoyed it, the whole experience, it was class to learn a new skill like that.
“And I’ve actually fallen in love with skating. And I do miss it, and I still go if I can.”
It comes after Jake spoke about the iconic Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean and what it was like to work with them.
Tonight the other half of the celebrity line-up will be taking to the ice to perform for the first time.
It comes after last weeks first round of performances, which saw Mark Little failing to get the public vote.
He alongside one celebrity from tonight’s show will battle it out in the first skate-off.
I didn’t have a single day off when I did it.
As for who will be safe and skating through to week three, James Jordan’s initial performance put him in good stead.
The ex-Strictly Come Dancing professional came out on top of last week’s leaderboard.
And it seems he is the bookies' early favourite.
According to Oddschecker, he has a 9/4 chance of being this series’ winner.
Dancing On Ice airs tonight at 6pm on ITV.
