Neighbours spoilers: ‘It wasn’t that full on’ Star reacts to controversial storyline
NEIGHBOURS has tackled a fair few storylines in the past. However, one of the Australian soaps most recent storylines gained quite a bit of attention for its controversial connotations.
Neighbours: Chloe's date gives her a controversial business idea
Chloe Brennan (played by April Rose Pengilly) has been launching her business Cash for Company on Neighbours in recent weeks, where she would be paid for spending time with lonely, wealthy men.
Although nothing sexual arose from the situations, the name of the business surprised Channel 5 viewers, initially thinking Chloe could be embarking on a more erotic venture.
However, since the storyline has played out on screen, viewers have come to understand Chloe is only paid for providing a listening ear to the men she spends time with.
Actress April Rose Pengilly, who plays the savvy businesswoman, has spoken out about what reaction she has received from viewers of the Australian soap.
People have understood that it’s not a prostitution service
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, April said: “I think people have understood that it’s not a prostitution service or anything like that.
“It is kind of made to sound like that.
“I had a few fans say, ‘Oh gosh, I thought you were being paid for a lot more,’ but once they kept watching the show, they realised it wasn’t that full on,” she continued.
However, Chloe did have her doubts over whether she was being paid for sex when the lines crossed with Ramsay Street newcomer Pierce Greyson (Tim Robards).
Taking a liking to Chloe, Pierce became one of her clients and the two developed a sexual chemistry, eventually ending up in bed together.
Although Chloe thought it was for fun, she was surprised to discover Pierce had sent her gifts as what she believed to be payment for the moment of passion.
Pierce has since taken a real liking to Chloe and has showered her with more gifts as a token of his affection for her - rather than a payment ploy.
However, it seems Pierce is a lot more into Chloe than she is in him as she has been asked to keep Pierce on side in order to secure a deal for Lassiter’s Hotel.
Having to play along that she likes him in order to protect Terese Willis (Rebekah Elmaloglou) from Paul Robinson’s (Stefan Dennis) revenge plan, Chloe is in denial over whether to tell Pierce her true feelings.
April revealed: “In the beginning she really does like him, she thinks he’s very forward.
“He actually says the decision to take things further in the relationship is her choice and it’s only later he starts giving her gifts and she thinks ‘Well what did I just do? I wasn’t doing it for that reason, I didn’t expect that.’”
“As time goes on, it becomes clear Pierce has stronger feelings for her and Chloe doesn’t feel that way and that’s what they kind of went into the relationship planning for,” the actress continued.
With conflicted feelings, will Chloe continue to keep up the pretence, or will she reveal all to Pierce?
Elsewhere in Erinsborough, Finn Kelly (Rob Mills) made an explosive return to the street last week.
Finn has been on the run since he held Bea Nilsson (Bonnie Anderson), her sister Ellie Conway (Jodi Anasta) and their aunt Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburn) captive.
However, in a cliff-edge showdown with the trio, Finn was pushed with the women leaving him for dead. Now in a coma in hospital, will Finn wake to take revenge once more?
Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm with a repeat at 5.30pm on Channel 5.
