Butterfly is described as “a heartfelt and sensitive drama about a complex family situation”.
“When their 11-year-old, Max (played by Callum Booth-Ford), experiences increasingly distressing feelings around gender, separated parents, Vicky (Anna Friel) and Stephen (Emmett J Scanlan) attempt to work together.
“But with both parents divided, will Max find the courage to identify as a girl and express herself as Maxine?
And will her family be able to accept her for who she really is?”
The synopsis for episode two reads: “Vicky and Stephen do everything they can to support Max’s transition to becoming Maxine.
“But it’s clear that Stephen is unhappy things are moving so fast.
“With the couple divided, Vicky takes matters into her own hands, and makes a reckless decision.”
ITV released a promo ahead of the new episode this weekend.
It opens with Vicky and Maxine arriving home in a new school uniform, this time with a skirt instead of trousers.
There is a shot of the two running through an airport.
“Maxine needs to have puberty stopped,” Vicky says and Maxine is in hospital getting scans done.
There then appears to be some complications as Maxine is told: “We never say no, we only say not now.”
There also appears to be more reconciliation between Vicky and Stephen.
“I don’t want to lose you,” he tells her.
The trailer ends with the family hugging and Maxine says: “I want to feel happy.
“I want my parents to be happy with me.”
