THE 100 season 6 has been confirmed by The CW. Will we see aliens in the new series of the sci-fi show?
The 100 tease intense season five finale episode
WARNING: this article contains spoilers for The 100 season five
The 100 will be returning for a sixth season sometime in 2019.
This was confirmed by The CW in May, with the network’s president Mark Pedowitz adding that The 100’s executive producer Jason Rothenberg “may have a six or seven year plan” for the show.
However, the events of Damocles Part II, the season finale of series five, suggest that subsequent series may look very different.
Will there be aliens in The 100 season 6?
It has been confirmed by Rothernberg that we will be seeing new lifeforms from other other planets in the upcoming episodes.
Damocles Part II ended with Clarke (played by Eliza Taylor) and Bellamy (Bob Morley) mourning the death of Monty (Christopher Larkin) after they had gone into cryogenic sleep for 125 years and he had stayed awake to take care of them.
They had frozen themselves as they travelled to find a new planet, and the episode ended with their new home emerging in the distance.
Though no-one from The 100 cast or crew has confirmed what they will find on this planet, it seems unlikely that it will be totally uninhabited.
This means we could see the team battling off an alien threat in season six.
The presence of alien life on the new planet was teased by Rothenberg in an interview with IGN.
He said: “In terms of what kind of life forms they discover on this planet, there is definitely life on that planet.”
However, he refused to give any more away, adding, “Whether it was intelligent life or not before Eligius III landed is something that people will have to tune in to next season to find out.”
The end of season six is f***ing awesome
He also played with fans’ expectations when he said: “The answer to your question is yes, we'll meet aliens.
“But the aliens are us because we're landing on someone else's planet.”
The only person who seems to know what form the life on the new planet will take at the moment is Rothenberg himself.
In the IGN interview, he teased that: “The end of season six (which I already know) is f***ing awesome too.”
Those looking for spoilers, however, will not find them in the books of The 100.
Rothenberg admitted: “I don't really consider the books at all anymore when we're writing this show. In fact, they're a totally different thing.”
It seems that fans of the show may have to wait to find out what aliens The 100 will meet in seaosn six.
The 100 season 6 is currently in production and seasons 1-5 are available to stream on Amazon Prime.
