‘Harry Redknapp was a moaner’
FOOTBALL club boss Milan Mandaric yesterday branded Spurs manager Harry Redknapp a “moaner”.
But he denied it was Redknapp’s complaints which led to two tax-free “bungs” being paid into the manager’s secret Monaco account.
Mandaric said they quibbled over England star Peter Crouch when he owned Portsmouth FC and Redknapp was director of football.
Milan Mandaric said they quibbled over England star Peter Crouch when he owned Portsmouth FC and Harry Redknapp was director of football.
Crouch was bought for £1.25million in 2001 when Redknapp had a 10 per cent bonus on the onward sale of players. Mandaric didn’t rate Crouch. But he was wrong and Crouch was sold to Aston Villa for £4.5million in March 2002, Southwark Crown Court heard. By then Redknapp was manager and his bonus was cut to five per cent.
Redknapp flew to Monaco and set up an account called Rosie47 after his dog and his birth year. Mandaric says two sums paid in were “seed money” for an investment on Redknapp’s behalf and nothing to do with his employment. Both deny cheating the public revenue.
