What a shower! It’s the royal garden party
THE Queen’s guests had to dash for shelter yesterday when a summer tea party at Buckingham Palace was hit by torrential downpours.
Half an inch of rain fell in just 10 minutes and some of the visitors had to be carried over huge puddles.
Retired teacher Eileen Dawes, 58, from Beverley, East Yorks, said: “It hasn’t spoilt the day. We saw the Queen and enjoyed being at the Palace.”
The torrential rain caused chaos across the country.
Several flooded London underground stations had to be closed and in Hastings, East Sussex, three months of rain fell in just over three hours.
The Met Office has forecast more heavy showers today.
