A suspect Islamist terrorist ploughed a van into a crowd of people on a pedestrian walkway popular with tourists yesterday afternoon.
A taxi driver told Catalan TV station TV3: “The van was doing zigzags knocking over everyone he could. It was shocking.”
The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack – the deadliest to hit Spain since 190 people died in the 2004 Madrid train bombing.
Last night police shot dead five attackers wearing fake suicide belts after a second attack killed a woman and injured others in the seaside resort of Cambrils.
Police have confirmed that the attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils have injured 130 people.
Where is Las Ramblas in Barcelona?
Las Ramblas is a tourist hotspot in the heart of Barcelona and just a few minutes away from the coast.
It most characteristic feature is the 1.2 kilometre-long (0.75 mile) tree-lined pedestrian walkway known as La Ramblas.
The open boulevard directly connects to the city centre and Plaça Catalunya, the point where the Old City meets the more modern Barcelona.

In the immediate aftermath of the attack, police posted on Twitter: "If you are in the area of Plaça Catalunya in Barcelona stay where you are until the police says that you can get (out).”

At the height of the tourist season La Ramblas is crowded with thousands of visitors who go to its many restaurants, shops and cafes.
All year round it is used for street markets, festivals and live performances.
Spanish poet Federico García Lorca once described La Ramblas as “the only street in the world which I wish would never end”.

Where is Barcelona?
The city affected by the deadly terror attack is located in the heart of the Spanish Catalonia region.
Barcelona sits on the seaside, on the eastern tip of the Iberian Peninsula some 617 km (384 miles) away from the capital city of Madrid.
It is also close the French border and the coastal city of Perpignan, and lies about 70 miles away from the Cambrils resort.
Barcelona boasts a population of 1.6million people and is the second biggest city in Spain. Over 266,000 of its residents are foreign citizens.
During the summer holidays it is an incredibly popular tourist destination, with its Basílica de la Sagrada Família attracting over 4.5million visitors last year alone.
