Greece is famed for its stunning weather, hospitable locals and stunning beaches. Roughly 4.6 million Brits arrive in Greece each year making the UK the second largest inbound tourist market after Germany.

Finding spots lesser-known by many other tourists is high on most people’s travel agenda. Regions that are less crowded ensures for a less stressful getaway meaning a better time spent away.

For this reason, a pretty little island in Greece is just the ticket. Sifnos is found in the Cyclades island group framed by sandy beaches, traditional way of life and its beauty.

The little Greek island has yet to be discovered by the crowds ensuring its authenticity. October in Sifnos is a travellers dreams as the peak tourist season has passed with most of the big crowds already thinning out.

Best of all, it's still relatively warm compared to the UK with temperatures between 20C and 25C. The only big catch is that it does not have its own airport, meaning people need to embark on a ferry journey from the mainland to get there.

Stepping off the plane you’ll be greeted with sparkling waters, long stretches of golden sand, quaint white-washed yards and a host of tavernas providing a medley of fresh and unique tastes.

The island is also famed for its pottery thanks to the region's abundance of refractory clay with a colour explosion making it a feast for the eyes.

Speaking of feasts, Sifnos promises a culinary journey like no other with an array of mouth-watering dishes including their chickpea stew known as Revithia, caper salads known as Kaparosalata, local cheese known as Manoura and fried chickpea balls known as Revithokeftedes.

For the sweet lovers, Sifnian honey pie (Melopita), almond biscuits (Amygdalota) or nougat wafers (Halvadopita) will send you to desert heaven.

“I can't recommend this island enough for a relaxing holiday, beautiful scenery, great food and friendly people,” said one TripAdvisor user.

Another chimed in saying: “Sifnos is more of an Island you can discover by exploring hidden gems like beautiful hilltop villages, secluded coves and beautiful beaches. The food was good too and the weather was perfect.”

Sifnos does not have an airport so it's recommended to either fly from Athens or take a three hour ferry for a warm getaway without the crowds.
